  • Mascoutin Valley State Trail - Rosendale, WI 54974
    One of Wisconsin's best rail trails, the Mascoutin Valley State Trail follows the bed of a former railroad line through some of the most picturesque countryside in the northeastern part of the state. The trail totals 21 miles and is divided into two sections—one from Berlin to Ripon and another from Rosendale to Fond du Lac. The trail is shared by hikers, cyclists, and horseback riders and is also open to snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in winter. 

  • Hartman Creek State Park - N2480 Hartman Creek Rd, Waupaca, WI 54981
    Encompassing a chain of small lakes along its namesake stream, Hartman Creek State Park is a charming spot to get away from the modern world. It's a prime location near Waupaca homes for sale is perfect for kayak and canoe trips, and the park also offers a quiet family campground with shady, secluded campsites. Hartman Creek was once a fish hatchery before being opened as a state park in 1966, and the park's lakes and streams still offer excellent fishing for bass and panfish.

  • High Cliff State Park - N7630 State Park Rd, Sherwood, WI 54169
    Less than 20 minutes from Appleton, the 1,187-acre High Cliff State Park overlooks the shoreline of Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake. The park gets its name from the rugged limestone cliffs that parallel the lakeshore along the rim of the Niagara Escarpment. Visitors enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities, from hiking and horseback riding to swimming and fishing. Camping is also available.

  • Wiouwash State Trail - Wittenberg, WI 54499
    The 41-mile Wiouwash State Trail is one of the great hiking, biking, and horseback riding destinations in Northeastern Wisconsin. Its name is a portmanteau of the four counties the trail passes through—Winnebago, Outagamie, Waupaca, and Shawano—and dozens of trailheads provide access along its length. Much like the Mascoutin Valley State Trail, the Wiouwash is a rail trail with an even and well-graded surface suitable for hikers of all experience levels. 

  • Newport State Park - 475 County Rd NP, Ellison Bay, WI 54210
    Newport State Park lies at the very tip of the Door Peninsula, which separates Lake Michigan from Green Bay. Offering 11 spectacular miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, Newport is the only wilderness-designated state park in Wisconsin. It's a truly wild place, with 2,300 acres of forest, 30 miles of hiking trails, and a scattering of remote backcountry campsites. It's also a designated Dark Sky Park, making it perfect for stargazing.

  • Copper Culture State Park - 260 Copper Culture Way, Oconto, WI 54153
    Nestled alongside the rolling waters of the Oconto River, Copper Culture State Park offers a window into the past. Made up of farmlands, natural areas, and archeological sites, the park is located on the site of a prehistoric cemetery belonging to the Old Copper Complex people, who lived here around 4000 to 2000 BC.
